Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get involved?

In order to be successful, we know it is important to provide many opportunities to involve the community to be part of this initiative.  We want  to ensure the community is able to participate in developing the goals, indicators and be kept up-to-date on news and progress.  Go to the “Participate” page to see a list of ways you can help achieve the goals set out by our community members.

What is collective impact?

Collective impact initiatives are “long-term commitments by a group of important social actors from different sectors to develop a common agenda for solving a specific social problem. Their actions are supported by a shared measurement system, mutually reinforcing activities, and ongoing communication, and are staffed by an independent backbone organization.” (Kania & Kramer, 2011)

What will be done with the community goals?

The input from the community will be organized  brought back to the Round Table who will use the information to help achieve the community goals.

Why does the United Way want to give people more of a say in its future direction?

We know that the well-being of people cannot be determined by or assigned to any one individual, organization or level of government. The whole community, public and private sectors must share the responsibility to make Thunder Bay all it can be.
